Hobbies #2

Liz Wardy CMNS 150 Hobbies #2 I actually struggled with trying to find a topic for this, as I don't really want to bore people with "sick game facts" so I decided I would talk about female representation in games (sorta different). So to begin with, I'm sure most think of female characters as princesses and damsels in distress and.. unfortunately that wouldn't be wrong. While the world is improving upon that today, some of the most famous games include characters like Princess Zelda, Princess Peach, The Handle (Monster Hunter World) and etc. While most of those characters are from the past, there are still so many problems with female representation today and hopefully it can be improved upon. Even if those previously mentioned princesses now are featured in many games as independent and powerful, it's difficult to overlook their past. Hobbies #1

Liz Wardy CMNS 150 My hobbies are generally reading and playing video games with occasionally binge watching but lately I've been caught up on the news of YouTube Rewind. After YouTube's last attempt at their rewind for 2018, they knew they had to improve this year (which wouldn't be hard considering their previous video hit sixteen million dislikes) but the question is, did they improve? I personally think they did alright. After all a rewind can be looking at statistics and what was trending throughout the year, which they did. A vast majority of people dislike it however, saying it's the worst yet since it's just stats. Perhaps at this point, the fans will never be happy and it may not matter soon since COPPA is being reinforced on the platform next month. Link:  YouTube Rewind 2019

Social Media 2 Way Communication

CMNS 150 Social Media 2 Way Communication Dec. 3rd, 2019 Liz Wardy It's no shock that everyone is enveloped in social media, one way or another, regardless in their views of using technology all day. It is one of the most common ways of communication, and one of the most useful, just trailing behind interpersonal because of the feedback is stronger in interpersonal. Social media creates the chance to create, share, and learn and frankly I love social media. I love looking at art in different forms on the internet shared by my friends, family, or complete strangers. I also tend to be the type of person that prefers staying home most nights so being able to talk to people regardless of where I am makes me feel more secure. Most say social media is a cover up, but I find it's a way to show true colors for those that are too shy to. While social media today is always caught up in controversies relating to data mining, Facebook, Google, Twitter, and etc are always the most

CMNS Visual Assignment

CMNS Visual Assignment Monday, December 2nd, 2019 Link: CMNS Audio Assignment As soon as I heard about this assignment I knew I was going to enjoy it. Watching the original Michael Welsh video of it was interesting to me and properly thinking of it made me realize how much the world has changed for students today.

CMNS Photo Assignment

CMNS Photo Assignment Monday, December 2nd, 2019 Link: https://photos.app.goo.gl/1Lq3HmX2xqJxdHAi9 When doing this assignment I was very nervous to get my pictures. I'm very bad at asking people for these kind of things and almost feel like I'm disturbing them. Once I had asked and the barista's ended up being very friendly and it felt natural to take pictures of them. I'm not the proudest of some of these pictures since my phone's camera doesn't take light well, but I was happy with the assignment when I turned it in.

Wardy Turkle Assignment

Connected but Alone  Liz Wardy October 4th, 2019 Andy Bryce My use of technology is like most students of this generation. As the older generation’s may say, we are addicted to our phones and the internet. Even if I don’t need to look at my phone, I will continue to pull it out of my bag or occasionally look at it for any notifications. Ironically the other night I felt panic when I couldn’t find my phone while watching a video and realized I had left it in the other room to charge. It’s scary to think we are entirely dependent on technology, as if a solar flare was to occur many lives would be in trouble. While I don’t think the advancements in smartphones are typically bad, I believe some people need to be reminded that they are still in the real world, and they have their own responsibilities. While I agree it’s extremely awkward hanging out with a group of friends who are all on their phones, I can’t deny it’s a good way to pass time.
